Book of the Month
For April’s Book of the Month, I’ve chosen "Crushing; God Turns Pressure into Power" by T.D. Jakes. I was drawn to this book after experiencing several seasons in my own life where I felt completely crushed. After coming across a powerful conversation on “Crushing” between Bishop T.D. Jakes and Pastor Steven Furtick, the book found me at exactly the right time.
In "Crushing", T.D. Jakes shared personal stories from his life how life’s hardest moments, those that break us, can actually refine us, strengthen our faith, and prepare us for purpose and unexpected blessings. Using the metaphor of grapes being crushed to make wine, he shows how God can use difficult experiences to transform us rather than destroy us.
This book gave me language for my own experiences and reminded me that being broken doesn’t mean being defeated. It’s a guide to leaning on God through pressure, pain, and setbacks, and discovering peace, joy, and purpose along the way. My hope is that in your own moments of feeling crushed, you hold onto the truth that it’s temporary and that growth is happening even when you can’t see it.
The question isn’t if we’ll face crushing moments. It’s how we’ll move through them. Will we let them harden us, or will we allow them to shape us? Whatever your season, this book reminds us that purpose and something meaningful await on the other side.
Key Takeaways:
- "We are all crushed by the same blows of life."
- "Your crushing is nothing more than the beginning of a glorious, transformation process that will reveal to the world and you who and what you really are."
- "One's crushing always gives rise to something wonderful in someone else's life."
